Solar Panel Price in Bihar: 1kW–5kW Cost Guide
A search for solar panel price in Bihar can bring up two very different numbers: the price of a few panels and the cost of a complete rooftop system. Before comparing offers for your home in Patna or Siwan, check which one you are looking at. An installed system also needs an inverter, mounting structure, cables, protection equipment and installation work.
This guide explains how to compare 1kW, 2kW, 3kW and 5kW options, how central subsidy changes the effective cost for eligible households, and what to ask before paying an installer.
How Vacen pricing works: Request an itemised quotation after a roof and electricity-bill assessment. This page does not advertise a fixed Vacen installation rate. The system price, taxes, installation scope and any battery cost must be confirmed in your written offer. Government assistance is separate from the installer’s selling price.
Solar panel price in Bihar: compare the complete quotation
For a home in Patna or Siwan, compare the same system capacity and equipment scope across quotations. Vacen Groups provides the final project price after assessing your requirements; a generic price per panel is not a complete installed-system offer.
| System capacity | Vacen installation price | Standard central assistance for an eligible household* |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | Request a site-specific quotation | ₹30,000 |
| 2 kW | Request a site-specific quotation | ₹60,000 |
| 3 kW | Request a site-specific quotation | ₹78,000 |
| 5 kW | Request a site-specific quotation | ₹78,000 |
*The assistance figures describe the central residential scheme, not Vacen prices or an automatic discount. Approval, equipment eligibility and the application process apply. Any separately applicable Bihar support is not included in this table.[1][2]
Ask for the gross installation price and payment schedule first. Then assess the effective cost after the assistance actually approved for your application. Do not treat an expected subsidy as money already received, or assume that an advertised net price is the amount payable before commissioning.
Panel-only price is not the installed-system price
A low panel price can look attractive until the rest of the equipment is added. Two quotations are comparable only when they cover the same capacity and scope.
Ask for these items in the written proposal:
- Panel manufacturer, model, quantity and total DC capacity.
- Inverter model, AC rating and whether the system provides any backup.
- Mounting design, structure material and any roof or civil work.
- AC/DC wiring, protection devices, earthing and other safety provisions.
- Installation, testing, documentation and commissioning responsibilities.
- Applicable taxes, transport, metering-related charges and exclusions.
- Product warranties, installation warranty and the terms of maintenance support.
A panel performance warranty is not the same as an inverter warranty or a workmanship warranty. Read each separately instead of relying on one headline warranty period. If your quotations use different panel technologies, our Mono PERC, polycrystalline and TOPCon comparison explains the terminology to discuss with the installer.
Which system size should you consider?
Use electricity consumption in units (kWh) from recent bills, rather than choosing a system only from the rupee amount. Tariffs, billing subsidies and fixed charges can make similar consumption appear as different bill values. Your roof, sanctioned load and daytime consumption also matter.
1kW solar system
A 1kW option is worth discussing when consumption is modest or the usable roof is limited. It should not be sold as a guarantee that every household appliance will run together. Ask for a generation estimate and compare it with your actual consumption.
2kW solar system
For a household considering a step up from 1kW, check whether the additional panels fit without shading. A bigger nameplate capacity is less useful if a water tank, nearby wall or another building blocks a large part of the array.
3kW solar system
If you are comparing the 3kW solar panel price in Bihar, separate the installation price from the subsidy discussion. Under the central residential assistance structure, the grant reaches ₹78,000 at 3kW; that does not automatically make 3kW the correct size for every home.[1][2]
As a calculation example only, assume an average of 4 units per installed kW per day. A 3kW system would then produce 3 × 4 × 30 = 360 units over a 30-day month. This is an assumed example, not a Patna or Siwan generation forecast. Actual production requires a site-specific assessment and varies with weather, shade, orientation and system losses.
5kW solar system
A 5kW system needs a separate roof and consumption assessment. It can cost more without providing a larger central household grant: the standard central assistance remains capped at ₹78,000 for an eligible system of 3kW or more.[1][2] Compare the extra investment with the additional electricity you can use or export under the applicable metering arrangement.
On-grid or battery backup: compare the right quotation
If your priority is reducing purchased electricity, ask about an on-grid proposal. If you also want selected appliances to operate during power cuts, ask for a separate backup design and battery specification.
A conventional grid-connected inverter disconnects when the electricity grid fails for safety; daytime sunlight alone does not mean your home will have backup.[3] A battery-backed system needs compatible equipment and a defined backup circuit. Battery capacity, usable energy, supported loads and warranty should appear in the quotation.
Do not compare a battery-inclusive hybrid offer with a battery-free on-grid price as if they were the same product. Our on-grid, off-grid and hybrid solar comparison explains the basic differences.
How subsidy affects the price you actually pay
The PM Surya Ghar central assistance structure provides ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2kW and ₹18,000 for the next 1kW, with a maximum of ₹78,000 for an eligible individual residential installation.[1][2]
A small business, an off-grid installation and a household applying through the national portal should not be assumed to have identical eligibility. Confirm the consumer category, registered vendor status, equipment requirements and application process before committing to a subsidised proposal.
For Bihar, use the DISCOM shown on your electricity bill when checking the application. Do not assume every installer or every panel model qualifies. Also ask whether an additional state benefit currently applies to your application; the table above lists central assistance only, without deducting it from an unconfirmed installation price.
Our PM Surya Ghar subsidy guide covers the topic separately. Use the official national portal to check the current process rather than treating an advertised subsidy as guaranteed cash already received.
Why two homes in Bihar can receive different prices
The same nominal system size can need different installation work. An elevated structure, a longer cable route or a roof that needs repairs changes the project scope. Equipment models, access to the roof, shading and the backup requirement can also change the proposal.
For a home in Patna or Siwan, ask the survey team to record where the panels will go and how they will be maintained. Access to the water tank, drainage and walking space should be considered before the mounting structure is finalised. Do not approve a layout from a price-per-kW number alone. Also plan for safe cleaning and inspection access; our solar-panel maintenance tips provide a starting checklist.
Before accepting a solar quotation
- Share recent electricity bills and explain any planned increase in consumption.
- Ask for a roof survey and a layout that identifies shading and access constraints.
- Obtain the equipment list and an itemised scope, including exclusions.
- Confirm whether the proposal includes backup, and exactly which loads it supports.
- Verify the subsidy route independently and separate it from the payment schedule.
- Check commissioning documents, warranty coverage and who handles service calls.
Avoid a guaranteed “zero bill” promise without an explanation of fixed charges, seasonal production, consumption and metering rules. A useful proposal states its assumptions and gives you a way to check them. For background, see our net-metering guide.

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Bihar for a home?
There is no single price for every home. Ask Vacen Groups for a survey-based quotation for your selected capacity. The written offer should specify panel and inverter models, taxes, installation inclusions and whether a battery is included. This page does not publish a fixed Vacen rate card.
How much is a 3kW solar system after subsidy?
Start with the gross price in your written 3kW quotation and subtract only the assistance approved for your application. Under the standard central residential structure, eligible installations of 3kW or more can receive up to ₹78,000.[1][1] Your payment schedule, additional work and any separately applicable state assistance must be considered separately.
Does a 5kW system receive a ₹1,50,000 central subsidy?
No. Under the standard central individual-household structure used here, the grant is capped at ₹78,000 for an eligible installation of 3kW or above.[1][2] Do not multiply ₹30,000 by every kW beyond the first two.
Can solar panels run my home during a power cut?
A conventional on-grid installation does not provide backup when the grid is down.[3] Discuss a compatible battery-backed design if backup is part of your requirement, and obtain a separate price for it.
Is the cheapest price per kW the best offer?
Not necessarily. Compare the equipment, safety scope, mounting work, exclusions and service terms. A lower initial price is not a fair comparison if another quotation includes work or equipment that it leaves out.
